Welcome to ZendoME Sangha, a Zen Buddhist community nestled in Damariscotta, Maine.
ZendoME offers Zen(dhyana) training through zazen meditation, the morning service, dharma talks, the Mondo Zen process, daisan(one-on-one consults) and book study. This growing community will contribute to creating a new world, a world of love and caring, defended and ordered.
ZendoME also points to the sacredness of our own lives, it’s interconnectedness and interdependence on all of life, and the realization of our own buddha-nature. This practice offers us the opportunity to cultivate our own compassionate wisdom in the midst of what is arising in our lives.
ZendoME stems from the word, Zendo: the sacred space in which we gather to practice, grow and connect with one another. ME, stands for Maine.
Join us for our weekly Sunday Sangha gatherings beginning at 10 a.m. at 25 Reny Road (off of Biscay Road) in Damariscotta, on Biscay Orchards. As you come up the driveway follow it to the right where we meet in the cottage. Our service typically lasts about 90 minutes followed by fellowship over a cup of tea.

Jizai Don Sorterup has been practicing meditation since 2015, beginning his path of Buddhist study with the international Zen sangha, Hollow Bones in 2017 when taking Jukai or “lay” Buddhist vows. Ordained as a priest on June 24th, 2022, Jizai has spent the last five years engaged in his own daily meditation practice, formal Zen studies, and leading zazen meditation practice virtually. He has led in-person meditation since September of 2021, and founded the ZendoME Zen Buddhist sangha in the spring of 2022.
